"A Big Thank You"
Helping people gain new skills, get back into work, or change their future, is an extremely rewarding feeling.
Our staff are passionate about what they do, because of the people they do it for - the learners. The people who attend our courses with the motivation and drive to further their potential.
Helping them improve their lives, through training and mentoring, is an incredible feeling. An incredible feeling that motivates us to keep growing.
Antonio took part in one of our FLT Courses at the Portland Academy, at a time when he was really struggling. Upon completion of the course he sent us this truly humbling letter of thanks:
"Portland is not just a training facility – it is a place full of options and opportunities, where people have the chance to establish or re-establish themselves in a society where judgments come before opportunities.
I am a Management Accountant and Senior Financial Analyst, who had a great and secured job, until personal problems and a very biased System knocked my door and almost ruined my life. After being mentally affected with all my problems, and Doctors advising me to take few months out, I have decided that, staying at home and thinking about the problems, would make it worse. And talking to someone at Jobcentre, saying that I want to get myself busy, she then introduced me to Portland Training, passing me Elaine and Jess's contact details, and since then, everything has changed.
I have met, not just a company staff, but a new family – people who listen to your problems, give you wise advice and help you find an alternative to your problems.
At the end of two and half months, I left Portland Training with a FLT Counterbalance and Reach license, and a CSCS card, and passed a company assessment and got a job straight away as Fork Lift Driver.
Elaine, Jess, Rob, Phil, Simon, Malcolm, Wayne, even the other tutors who did the Health & Safety and Asbestos Awareness courses, they all played a very important role in changing my life, because I was in a stage where I was very suicidal, and I can assure you that Portland Training came as rescue for me.
I honestly want to thank you for running this kind of project, and ask you to keep supporting people like myself or others with similar or even more difficult issues in life.
Phil was like a Dad to me, always ready to listen and give wise words, Rob, a quality brother, Simon, a brother ready to cheer you up, Malcolm and Wayne, my wise uncles always ready to tell you off and put you on a right direction.
I'm set to go back to office as Financial Accountant by next month, however, the qualifications I got from Portland will surely give me more options in a foreseeable future."
For Antonio the course was about more than just a qualification - the benefits it had on his mental health were almost more important.
This message is truly humbling, and we wish Antonio all the best in the future!
