Mental Health Awareness Week

If you’re not already aware, this week is Mental Health Awareness week! A time of the year which is focused on creating a drive towards giving support to people who are in need.

Each year, Mental Health Awareness Week revolves around a specific theme, and this year, the spotlight is on movement: recognizing the significance of physical activity for our mental well-being.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be challenging to incorporate movement into their routines, however this week serves as a gentle push towards urging individuals to make those small changes. Whether you go for a walk on your lunch break to doing chair exercises whilst watching your favourite TV show! It all counts!

To help show our support, our team took part in the wear it green day and Raffle to help raise vital funds and awareness for mental health.

Here are a few strategies to consider when managing anxiety:

  • Exercise: Engage in physical activities that get you on your feet. Whether it’s hitting the gym or playing a sport with friends, physical exertion can help divert your mind from anxious thoughts.

  • Focus on Breathing: When anxiety creeps in, redirect your attention to your breath. Concentrate on each inhale and exhale, anchoring yourself in the present moment.

  • The 4-7-8 Method: This powerful technique aids in alleviating anxious thoughts. Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose, counting to four. Hold your breath for a count of seven, then exhale through your mouth, making a gentle whooshing sound, while counting to eight. Repeat this cycle four times.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel like you’re struggling, and need to get things off your chest, reach out to somebody, it may seem difficult at first, however it will make you feel so much better in the long run.

Remember, your mental health matters, it’s so important to prioritise this on a daily basis, not just for this week.
