What is a NVQ Level 2 in Construction?
An NVQ Level 2 in construction is a National Vocational Qualification that evidences that you are a skilled worker in a specific trade in construction. This qualification recognises your knowledge, skill and expertise in your field, whilst crucially acknowledging that you have the required health and safety knowledge to operate at that level. The NVQ level 2 is designed for skilled workers who have experience in a specific role. This qualification is reserved for those with the relevant skills and experience in their individual sector.

How much is a Blue CSCS card?
A blue CSCS card will cost you £36. You must only order your card through the CSCS themselves. Before applying for your card, you must hold a relevant NVQ level 2 and you must complete the relevant CITB health and safety test (commonly known as the touch screen test). The CITB touch screen test will cost you £22.50, so in total you will have to pay £58.50 to obtain your Blue CSCS card.

What is a NVQ Level 2 equivalent to?
An NVQ Level 2 is equivalent to obtaining 5 GCSEs at grade A*- C (9-4). Other qualifications that are equivalent to an NVQ level 2 are a BTEC first certificate, an intermediate GNVQ or any other level 2 qualification in the UK.
How is the NVQ level 2 assessed?
The NVQ level 2 is assessed at your place of work. NVQs are primarily work based assessments of competency, where you are observed in a natural working environment. Our experienced assessors will come to your place of work to gather all the required evidence for you to pass the NVQ level 2.
No time away from work
Our NVQ Level 2 assessments are undertaken at your place of work; our assessors will observe you in your day-to-day role. Due to the nature of the qualification being a work-based assessment, we will not disturb your everyday tasks and will work with you to get the qualification completed.
No classrooms or written work
The NVQ level 2 is assessed practically; as it is a hands-on assessment, we do not require the use of classrooms or traditional written work. We are flexible and will work around you, ensuring that you do not need to travel outside of your working requirements.

Typically, it will take most people between two to four months to complete an NVQ level 2. However, if you’re looking to complete it faster, dedicated learners can get this done much quicker.

No, you do not need to have a NVQ level 1 to do an NVQ level 2. Generally, NVQs are competency based assessments and have no official requirements.
However, if you are working on a construction site, you would more than likely already have your NVQ level 1 (Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Award) and your green CSCS card.
Once you have completed a NVQ level 2 in construction and the CITB health and safety test, you can apply directly through the CSCS website.
A blue CSCS card will cost you £36 and this should be paid directly to the CSCS.

This test can be booked online on the CITB website, but must be completed at an official Pearson Professional test centre.
You must complete the “operatives” test to apply for your blue CSCS card.
