If you’re considering completing an NVQ level 2 in 2024, you may be wondering how long it takes to complete it, or any NVQ for that matter. In this blog post we’ll go through a full breakdown of how long it actually takes to complete an NVQ level 2, providing an overview of the process, tips for faster completion and what you need to do.
Generally, an NVQ Level 2 takes between 2 and 4 months to complete.
However, the exact duration can vary for each learner. The time it takes largely depends on how much time you can dedicate to the qualification. There is no reason that a dedicated learner cannot complete the NVQ in less time. Similarly, learners with full schedules can take their time to complete the NVQ.
After completing an NVQ level 2 in construction, learners will then be able to apply for a blue CSCS card. This takes 5 working days to arrive.

What is an NVQ Level 2?
An NVQ Level 2 is a National Vocational Qualification that demonstrates you are a skilled worker in your specific occupation. In construction, obtaining an NVQ Level 2 will enable you to apply for your blue CSCS “Skilled Worker” card, subject to completing the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test.
There are seven main NVQ levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 7. These qualifications are nationally recognised by employers and are designed to help individuals develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for their jobs.
Importantly, NVQs are generally work-based assessments of competency, meaning they are usually assessed in a working environment. Therefore, you’ll need to be employed in a role relevant to the NVQ Level 2 you plan on completing so that an assessor can gather evidence of your competency.
We’ve also written a complete guide to the NVQ level 2 which goes into more detail.
