ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Erecting Steelwork Components

The ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Erecting Steelwork Components is a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates competence in the structural steelwork trade. It is aimed at individuals working in the engineering construction and steelwork sectors who want to gain formal recognition of their skills.

This is a competency-based qualification. There is no classroom teaching or formal lessons. Instead, candidates are assessed on their ability to meet the required standards in the workplace.

Assessment may include:

• Direct observation of practical tasks

• Professional discussion with an assessor

• Evidence gathered from the workplace such as job records, photographs and supervisor testimony

Learners must be employed or working in a role where they are actively engaged in erecting steelwork components. This ensures that there are suitable opportunities to generate workplace evidence for assessment.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required to support the completion of written elements of the qualification.

1. To achieve the ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Erecting Steelwork Components, learners must complete a range of mandatory and optional units. These typically include:

   • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

   • Erecting Structural Steelwork Components in the Workplace

   • Slinging and Hand Signalling the Movement of Loads in the Workplace

   • Erecting Steel Sections in the Workplace

   Units are selected and assessed based on the learner’s role and the requirements of their workplace.
