About the Role

Freelance Construction Assessor

Job Title: Freelance Construction Assessor

Location: Remote – national travel required and overnight stays

Purpose of the role:

To coach learners through their NVQ qualifications in Construction and Thermal Insulation, from induction to certification. This role spans our general construction alongside our thermal insulation provision, so you will need to be TICA approved and able to deliver the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Thermal Insulation (Construction) as well as other construction and/or plant NVQs. Make sure all assessment, learning, training and testing meets the needs of the learner and employer, alongside internal and external audit requirements. A particular focus on quality assurance, to maximise success rates and learner and employer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit learners in their working environment to carry out inductions, reviews, action planning, observations and assessments across construction, plant and thermal insulation qualifications. Complete all relevant documentation and records accurately and on time, covering learner training, progress and achievement, including:
  • Learner reviews
  • Records of assessment
  • Contact logs
  • Action plans and feedback
  • Training records
  • Any other contractual paperwork
  • Deliver and assess the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Thermal Insulation (Construction) to TICA standards, alongside construction and plant NVQs.
  • Keep up to date with your occupational areas, including thermal insulation practice, and with the latest developments in assessment methods.
  • Make sure learners understand their progress and where their evidence meets the standards of the qualification. Put specific training in place to help learners progress.
  • Provide ongoing information, advice and guidance.
  • Engage proactively with employers and keep them updated on learner progress.
  • Embed safeguarding, British values, Prevent awareness, equality and diversity, and health and safety into the learner programme.
  • Maintain assessment standards to TDLB D32/D33/A1, TAQA and Standard 9 at all times, and to TICA requirements for thermal insulation.
  • Support and guide learners, including more specific support for additional learning needs and additional social needs.
  • Complete learner health and safety documentation accurately and report any issues.
  • Support and maintain the quality assurance process for assessment, training and verification, in line with Portland Training’s policies and all related awarding organisation procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain delivery, practical and knowledge based skills, and identify and record the occupational training provided.
  • Stay committed to continuous improvement, both personal and organisational.
  • Help grow the company by supporting the marketing of all areas of the business.
  • Follow Portland Training’s IQA policies and procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to prioritise workloads
  • Ability to use initiative and be flexible in approach
  • Contribute and work well as part of a team
  • Some supervisory experience is desirable
  • Experience of mentoring, coaching, delivering training or supporting personal development to learners
  • Full driving licence, their own vehicle and business insurance as travelling will be required as learners will be spread over a large geographical area

Qualifications

  • Assessor qualification (required) Approved by TICA (Thermal Insulation Contractors Association) to assess thermal insulation qualifications
  • Able to deliver and assess the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Thermal Insulation (Construction) D32/D33 or A1 units
  • Recognised teaching qualification, for example PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, Cert Ed or PGCE
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English
  • Occupationally competent in line with awarding organisation guidelines
  • Experience of both paper based and e-portfolios

*Freelance agreement, invoice payment structure. Paid per portfolio.
