We’re proud to announce that, following our recent inspection by Ofsted, Portland Training has achieved “Expected Standard” in all judgement areas. This outcome recognises the high quality of our teaching, learner support and leadership, and reflects the positive impact we continue to make in the lives of unemployed adults across the communities we serve.
The inspection process is thorough and detailed, focusing on the quality of education, leadership and management, learner outcomes, safeguarding and the overall learner experience. Achieving “Expected Standard” across every area is a significant endorsement of the culture, standards and commitment embedded throughout our organisation.
A Culture of Inclusion and Opportunity
Inspectors highlighted the inclusive culture created by our leaders and staff. They recognised how we support unemployed learners to rebuild confidence, gain valuable skills and take meaningful steps towards sustainable employment.
At Portland Training, inclusion is not simply a policy. It is part of who we are. Many of our learners join us facing barriers such as long term unemployment, low confidence or limited prior qualifications. The inspection report acknowledged the safe, respectful and encouraging environment we provide, where individuals feel valued and supported to achieve their goals.
Strong Leadership and Clear Strategic Vision
The inspection also praised our leadership and governance arrangements. Leaders were recognised for having a clear vision and strategy, with a firm commitment to improving learners’ life chances.
Our leadership team works closely with staff, partners and stakeholders to ensure our curriculum remains responsive to employer needs and aligned with local and national priorities. Inspectors noted that this clarity of direction translates into well planned programmes and a consistent focus on high standards.
High Achievement and Positive Progression
One of the most important measures of success is the progress our learners make. Inspectors identified high achievement rates and strong progression outcomes for unemployed adults completing our programmes.
This means learners are not only completing their qualifications but moving on to further training, apprenticeships or employment. For many, this represents a transformative step forward, gaining confidence, financial independence and renewed belief in their own potential.
High Quality, Adaptable Teaching
The quality of education we provide was another clear strength. Inspectors found that our teaching is high quality and adaptable, helping learners to build both vocational competence and personal confidence.
Our tutors tailor delivery to meet individual needs, ensuring that learning is engaging, practical and relevant to employment. Beyond qualifications, learners develop essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving, all of which support long term success.
Learner Support, Careers Guidance and Personal Development
Inspectors also recognised the strong pastoral support and careers guidance embedded within our programmes. Learners reported feeling safe, valued and well supported.
Preparation for employment is central to our approach. Through careers advice, employability workshops and employer engagement, we ensure learners understand the expectations of the workplace and feel prepared to progress. The report acknowledges that this comprehensive support contributes significantly to learner confidence and progression outcomes.
Effective Safeguarding and a Culture of Openness
Safeguarding standards were confirmed as being met. Inspectors recognised the open and transparent culture within Portland Training, where concerns are identified, acted upon and managed effectively.
Creating a safe environment is fundamental to effective learning. Staff are well trained, processes are robust and learners understand how to raise concerns. This culture of vigilance and care underpins the trust our learners place in us.
Living Our B.E.S.T Values
The report reflects the strong culture we have built, underpinned by our B.E.S.T values: Believe, Encourage, Support, Together. These values shape how we work with learners, partners and each other every day.
We are particularly proud that this outcome builds on our previous Ofsted judgement of Good, demonstrating both consistency and continued commitment to excellence.
Thank You
This achievement is a collective success. We would like to thank our dedicated team, whose professionalism and passion drive our standards, our partners and employers, who work alongside us to create opportunities, and most importantly, our learners, whose ambition and resilience inspire everything we do.
We remain committed to delivering high quality training that transforms lives and strengthens communities. This inspection outcome reinforces that we are firmly on the right path.
